Will be another workday for the library crew. We have some old bookcases to dispose of. We may donate them to Goodwill or some other non-profit, rather than throw them away.
We have more literature than we currently have book shelves to hold them We will continue to look for bookcases to increase the capacity of the library and make more effective use of the space. Most of the footprint of the library is already in use, but with 9 foot ceilings we can gain substantial space by going up. Currently most of our shelving units are only 5 feet tall, “garage shelves”, purchased from Costco. By acquiring taller bookcases we will be able to house more books, as much as 20% more.
Because we are a non-profit, we need to find bookcases where we can. Donations are our best option.
Before and after images. Empty bookcase, then filled with books. There will be more work to do to increase the number of books it will hold. The bottom shelf is a hole. We’ll need to create a cap so we can put books there. There is an additional 10 inches to be gained is we add another shelf.
