Description
The woman depicted Jesse Benton Fremont was the wife of John C. Fremont the first Republican presidential candidate (1856) and a prominent Union general. The slogan “We’ll give ’em Jessie” was a popular campaign catchphrase from 1856. The reverse is a list of soldiers, probably of the men who served with R Frazier, probably a relative of Miss Rose Frazier to whom the letter is addressed.
